Action Week Success More than 200 people took part in
community activities between the 15 th
and the 24 th October themed on woods
and trees and their value to the Biosphere
Reserve. The Action Week events included:
arts activities on Barnstaple Square, woodland
walks near Chulmleigh, Barnstaple and
Beaford, tree planting at Pathfields school,
a woodland experience, a hedge laying workshop at
Croyde and a green wood carving event at East
Yarde beside the Tarka Trail. Read

Interpretation at Braunton Countryside
Centre
On
October 10th, County Councillor Caroline Chugg and
pupils from Caen Primary School unveiled the new
board at Braunton Countryside Centre, near
Braunton Burrows, the core area of the Biosphere
Reserve. |

Linking Art, Science,
Education & the WorldFrom the
10 th to the 12 th October,
artists from the Biosphere's Confluence Project
supported by members of the Biosphere Team and
Beaford Arts held workshops with the participating
schools to familiarise them with the Biosphere
Reserve and the concept of ‘linkage’ that
underpins it. Members of iDAT also demonstrated
the ECOID sensors and begun the process of
deciding how exactly the schools will use them. Read

Nature Improvement
AreasThe Biosphere Reserve
Partnership's bid for the creation of a Nature
Improvement Area within the Biosphere has passed
the first round assessment from Defra. It is
1 of 20 applications (from an England-wide total
of 76) to be picked to go forward to a stage 2
assessment as part of the process to create 12
Nature Improvement Areas during 2012. Read
