Sustainable Farming Award

North Devon's Biosphere Reserve is working with the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) to recognise farmers that are making a positive contribution to the environment at the same time as being a sustainable business.

The Biosphere Sustainable Farming Award is part of the FWAG Bronze Otter scheme, and recognises the entrant in that scheme within the Biosphere Reserve area that has been judged to be making the best contribution to the environment. Mole Valley Farmers provided vouchers for the winner and runners-up.

The 2011 award has been awarded to Mr Robin Milton of Partridge Farm West Anstey. More

The FWAG Bronze Otter scheme judging criteria are:

  • Business viability / standard of commercial farming
  • The use of agricultural inputs like manures, herbicides and pesticides, and pollution control measures
  • Practices to encourage wildlife (care of existing habitats and the creation of new ones)
  • The conservation of natural resources like water and energy
  • The way the general public is involved
