Tree planting World Record attempt

4000 native trees, more than 400 volunteers and more than 20 sites. Tree planting day was a great success.

As part of a BBC Breathing Places campaign to plant over 1 million trees in one hour throughout the UK, over 20 community groups and landowners in the Biosphere Reserve Area planted trees on December 5th.

The world record hour was between 11am and 12noon and people were busy planting trees at 24 sites in the Biosphere that we know of, and 20 sites where some trees were supplied by the Northern Devon Coast and Countryside Service.  More than 1000 trees were planted at the Big Sheep near Bideford, 477 at pathfields School in Barnstaple and 200 at WINGS in Abbotsham.

Exact figures need to be collated for submission to the Guiness Book of World Records but we know that more than 4000 trees were planted and estimate that over 400 volunteers took part.
