Glowing, glowing, gone...can you help us survey glow worm distribution?

If you are outside at night this summer in July and August you might see the eerie green glow of one of the countryside’s most charismatic creatures; the glow worm.

We are asking everyone to look out for glow worms and to report any sightings to us via the form below. (You can download as a PDF, fill in a web form or, to make using the form easy on-the-go favourite this link.http://jotformeu.com/form/51812595132352 on your mobile phone or tablet

Glow-worm populations are thought to be struggling here and throughout the rest of England. The reasons for this aren’t entirely clear, but a combination of land use changes, pesticide use and even light pollution have been put forward as causes. Previous surveys have shown that there are significant populations of these creatures in the North Devon Biosphere, and where they exist they continue to offer one of the most enchanting of all summer wildlife watching experiences. Anyone who has ever seen a glow-worm will remember the experience.
To find out more about this wonderful and enigmatic bettle (it's not a worm), download the Devon Wildlife Trust's species factsheet.
