How to join
Everything is designed to be easy to access:

• Activities take place near where you live (libraries, youth groups, community spaces, coast and green spaces)
• Many sessions are free
• Some activities include transport support
• You can join as and when you want

What is this?
The Biosphere Crew is a way to get involved in practical, creative and social projects near you — in Appledore, Bideford, South Molton and beyond.

You can take part in ways that suit you:

• One-off events
• Short workshops
• Regular groups

Or step into leadership and shape projects yourself

You don’t need to be “outdoorsy” or already know about environmental stuff. Many people start with something simple and build from there.

What you’ll actually do
🎨 Creative projects: Make eco-zines, run craft stalls, design installations, create art from nature, contribute to festivals

🔬 Citizen science & hands-on discovery: Test water quality, explore rockpools, track wildlife, monitor habitats you’ve helped build

🛠️ Build and make things: Create bird boxes and hedgehog homes, install them locally, and track what happens next

🌊 Trips & outdoor experiences: Kayaking, coastal visits, estuary exploration, nature trips with transport provided

🎪 Events & pop-ups: Run activities at festivals, join community days, try quick drop-in sessions

🧠 Ideas to action: Join youth groups like Climb It! to plan real projects (rewilding, habitat creation, estuary work) and connect with experts

You’ll build real skills and experience

• Confidence speaking up and sharing ideas
• Creative skills (art, storytelling, media)
• Practical skills (wildlife surveys, making, running activities)
• Teamwork and leadership experience
• Opportunities linked to careers in environment, community work and creative industries
• A chance to influence real local decisions
