14/1/2015

Congratulations to Yarde Cafe near Petrockstowe on the Tarka Trail which has just been awarded GOLD in the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). The cafe is also a Bronze Award holder in the Biosphere's Investing in Nature scheme

Simeon Day who has run the cafe for only a year says,

"
I’m pleased that they have recognised our efforts to make Yarde Orchard as sustainable as possible. There’s still more to do so we will be working hard to improve our business’s sustainability into the future. Being part of the Biosphere Reserve network is a positive action that helps make Yarde Orchard sustainable and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can develop this relationship in 2015".

The GTBs audit report says:
‘Yarde Orchard Café & Accommodation makes an impressive start entering the Green Tourism programme with the GOLD level of award. There are numerous examples of 'best practice' onsite as a result of the commitment and enthusiasm of the owner, delivering a very green product to tourists and locals.’

‘Procurement is outstanding with the majority of food and drink items sourced from Devon and Cornwall or made onsite.’
