Pledge for Nature Project

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded £68,100 to help nature’s recovery across the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere. This follows a hugely successful community Crowdfunder campaign for the Pledge for Nature! project earlier in the Summer, which raised an amazing £11,702 from 196 supporters. Additional funds have been provided by Marsdens Devon Cottages, Devon County Council and the North Devon Biosphere Foundation who will manage the project on behalf of the Biosphere Partnership.
Pledge for Nature! is a new and ground-breaking campaign to reverse the decline in North Devon's nature by galvanising community action from all parts of society.

North Devon’s nature needs more space and wilder areas in our farmland, gardens and greenspaces. Citizens, schools, organisations and businesses (especially farmers) will participate in quarterly, coordinated calls to action to tackle priority issues for nature's recovery. We aim to stimulate over 1000 pledges to create flower and insect-rich habitats, plant new woodlands and make our rivers, hedges, gardens and green spaces better for nature, for the local economy and for combating climate change.

The project will provide opportunities for group-volunteering and learning new heritage skills; participation will improve well-being and wider understanding of the UNESCO Biosphere. Pledgers will record and share their achievements through social media, and will be celebrated in an annual Awards scheme. Partners will provide technical advice and back-up.

'Pledge for Nature launched in February 2020
