Fresh Water & Marine Industries

Picture
The Taw Torridge Estuary is a major feature in the Biosphere Reserve. Since 1995, it has had a specific management strategy that was developed and maintained with wide community consultation.

It was the second review of the estuary management plan in 2000 that addressed the issues on an ecosystem scale that led to the designation of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The Biosphere Reserve Partnership works with the Taw Torridge Estuary forum to keep the strategy under review and coordinate its implementation.

Projects

  • Marine Conservation Zones
  • Estuary land use project
  • Valmer project

Management of Taw Torridge Estuary is affected by a variety of factors such as wildlife and landscape considerations, climate change, sea level rise and the social and economic uses that we wish to put it to it. The Taw Torridge Estuary Forum brings partners together to resolve conflict and build management consensus and is a wonderful source of information.
