Walking for Health
Lead Partner- The Ramblers Association

PictureSouth Molton Striders
In the battle to confront health problems and other diseases our natural environment, a great national resource, is being vastly underused.

Walking for Health is a national project that supports local volunteers in the set up and running of local walking groups that provide walks specifically tailored to support good health through exercise and social interaction.

There are several Groups in the Biosphere Area (click the link for more information about the Groups, their walks schedule and contact details)

  • Holsworthy
  • Okehampton
  • South Molton Striders
  • Torridge walk and talk (Bideford)

Growing medical evidence shows that access to the natural environment is good for us and if used in the right way, represents our Natural Health Service - a treatment which is cost effective and free.

Access to green space has been shown to:
  • reduce stress levels.
  • encourage people to be more active, which is very good for health.
  • help prevent people getting ill.
  • help people keep stable once they have got an illness.
  • Prolong life.
